Walking tips:

Planning: It is
always a good
idea to plan a
route carefully, or at least a main route with options for change. Take a map along, in a map case if it could be wet. A compass will keep you pointing in the right direction. Take a bottle of water too, in the summer especially.

Clothing: It may
just be common
sense to ensure
you have suitable clothing for the weather, but all-too-often, people go out and get cold or don't cover up their arms and get burnt in the sun. The trick is to carry a light rucksack where you can keep a few extras whilst keeping your hands free.

Footwear: In this
area there is no
need for heavy
mountain boots of course but, especially in the winter, proper walking shoes or lightweight boots are ideal. Trainers are fine for shorter walks but not suitable in soft ground. Wellington boots are great for keeping feet dry but not easy to walk any distance in, unless you are an accomplished 'wellie wearer'.

Enjoy: The
assumption
with any walk
is that you will enjoy the views along the way. Take a camera – you never know if you will come across some wildlife or an ideal ‘picturesque view'.

Closing time: Enjoying a walk often includes looking forward to getting
back to the
pub for a drink,
be that a good
ale or a cup of
something hot.
Do make sure that you leave enough time for your walk in the morning before last orders if we close in the afternoon or, if a meal is part of the plan, that you get back in good time to place your order.
Check the website for regular opening times or contact us for day-to-day changes.

If you are part of a large party of walkers (more than 5) it would be best to book ahead to make sure we
can meet your needs.

Enjoy your walk! Let us know if you had any difficulty with any of the routes or can suggest improvements. We look forward to seeing you in The Chequers.

A new range of routes:
Walking from The Chequers Inn has always been
popular and now, with this range of walking routes,
you can enjoy a variety of different views of this
part of North-East Hampshire. The walks use a
combination of footpaths, local roads and
tracks. Download the leaflets from the
website here or ask in The Chequers Inn
for printed copies.

Popular Walks around Well

Please note:
Although the routes described in the leaflets are believed to be good walks, neither the staff, the management of the Chequers Inn, nor the author of the leaflets, accepts responsibility for their accuracy. Always carry a larger map (Ordnance Survey maps are best) and ideally a compass and a watch.

Please read the outline guidance above and, if unsure, seek advice of an experienced walker.

Downloads:

Each walk is described in a coloured leaflet. The key points on the route are marked and described.

To view the leaflet for each walk click on the 'download' key below. The download will launch a new window and you will see the leaflet in PDF format. Each leaflet can be printed as a double-sided A4. Scroll to the second page of the leaflet to see further details of the walk.

Leaflets:

Ask in The Chequers for printed leaflets for each walk. They are free but we would welcome a small donation to cover printing costs. You can download the leaflets here, and print them yourself if you wish.

Further routes will be added during the spring and summer.
